Mighty Mustangs
Comparison of New Zealand's two best-known Ford Mustangs, the legendary PDL Mustang 2 (built 17 years earlier in Christchurch, driven by Leo Leonard) and Kayne Scott's 1992 US-built Shell TraNZam Mustang, which met at Wigram. Leonard set a Wigram lap record of 1:14.90 in 1978, and Scott lapped in 1:12.36 in the new car, which carries a 100kg weight penalty. Both have 6-litre 351 engines, but the Shell car has a five-speed gearbox, power steering and a space-frame chassis.
