McMillan opts for older car
Title-holder Dave McMillan was expected to drive his five-year-old Ralt RT1 rather than his new Datsun-powered RT4 in the Lady Wigram Trophy after being disappointed with the new car in unofficial practice. David Oxton (Ford-powered Ralt RT4) was fastest in unofficial practice by almost 0.75 sec over John Smith and McMillan, with Steve Millen about a second slower; Adrian Reynard broke a wishbone on his Cuda 5.
