Triple Tasman champion Graham McRae led strongly but was put out by a broken valve spring, the third time in three Stuyvesant rounds he had been stopped by mechanical trouble. Teddy Pilette passed David Oxton for second after 36 laps and Peter Gethin took third from Oxton two laps from the end.
