Huge sums invested

Describes the enormous cost of the visiting Tasman circus coming to Wigram: each fuel-injected 500bhp Formula A car is worth about $20,000 with motors at $6000 each, and teams bring spare engines, transporters and crews. Allen was reported prepared to spend $250,000 on winning the title, and several cars ran foam-filled safety fuel tanks.
