Wigram suspicion
Wigram residents suspect collusion between the City Council, the Crown and Ngai Tahu over the future of the former RNZAF base, raised by Halswell-Wigram Rural Residents' Association chairman Paul McManus at a council hearing on a City Plan variation. Residents are alarmed at the prospect of 70,000 flights a year. The council plan variation would formalise Wigram as an airfield and allow housing and light industry.
Facts
- By 1998 the former RNZAF Wigram base of more than 250 hectares was owned by the Ngai Tahu Property Group.
