18-1-86 57 Ashburton's Andy McElerea driving a Reynard FF84 during pradice for tomorrow's Lady Wigram meeting. American set for pole spot California's Ted Prattes hes a good chance of being in pole position at tomorrow's first International Formula Pacific heat at the Lady Wigram meeting. He recorded fastest lap time in the first practice session today Pratta's time of 78.99secs put him only 0.15sec ahead of the series leader, fellow American Jeff MacPherson. Paul Radasich from Auckland was third, 0.isec down on Macherson. Only 1.69sec separated the first eight drivers, who were all driving Ralt RT4s. Two closely-fought races seem a certainty tomorrow. With the wind springing up after the first practice. the chances of drivers improving on these times during the second timed session look slim. Avon Hyde with his Commodore V8.. showed his clear intention of keeping the series lead in the Oscar championship by heading off the current champion, Trevor Crowe. in his Stariet V8. Hyde was 1.1sec ahead in their dash for the pole position. Graham Bowkett, in the Group A commodore, was quickest in the new Zealand touring car practice. heading off by 0.38sec. Crowe who was driving the Archibalds' BMW 635. The only race of the day was for cars contesting the Ray Parke Auto's pre-65 Saloon series. This resulted in a flag-to-flag win for Christchurch's Grant Milligan. in a Falcon V8. Milligan beat the home series leader. Grant Gutseblag, also in a Falcon V8, by six sec. Mike Small, in an AP5 Valiant, was some distance back in third.
