American set for pole spot
California's Ted Prappas set the fastest time in the first Formula Pacific practice session at Wigram before the 1986 Lady Wigram meeting, only 0.15 sec ahead of series leader Jeff MacPherson, with Paul Radisich third; just 1.69 sec covered the first eight Ralt RT4s. Avon Hyde headed the OSCA practice, Graham Bowkett led touring cars and Grant Milligan won the only race of the day, the pre-65 saloons.

Facts
- Only 1.69 sec separated the first eight drivers in Formula Pacific practice at Wigram on 18 January 1986; all were in Ralt RT4s.
- Strengthening wind after the first practice made improvement in the second timed session unlikely.
