McMillan's faith in new engine
Dave McMillan switched to a Nissan four-valve engine for the 1981 series, believed to be the first competitor outside Japan to obtain one; it was reckoned to make more power than the Ford BDA at 9600rpm and to be as good as the Ford, though slightly longer and higher. The Ford BDA remained favourite among competitors.
