Keen contest at Wigram likely

Close points scores in the Castrol GTX and Bank of New South Wales saloon championships should make for keenly contested saloon races at the Lady Wigram meeting. Leo Leonard (Chrysler Charger) had 40 points in Group One, Reg Cook (Ford Escort) led overall, and Robbie Francevic (rotary Mazda RX2) was third on 15; a protest over points was still unresolved. The last-minute entry of Australian Allan Moffat in a Falcon GTHO, and a 15-lap invitation race, add interest. The text is garbled.

Facts

  • The Castrol GTX series for production cars in 1973 was run in three groups; the winner was the driver scoring the most points regardless of group.
  • A protest over points gained in one of the car rounds was still unresolved before Wigram 1973.
