Overseas drivers dictate terms

Before a crowd of more than 20,000 in brilliant sunshine, Jochen Rindt led the 1969 Lady Wigram Trophy from pole, with Hill gaining second place after a duel with Courage and Amon running Hill close. Mechanical failures took out Gardner, Anderson, Moloney, McCully, Radisich, Oxton and Brownlie. Roly Levis was first resident driver in sixth, a lap down, ahead of Graham McRae, Bert Hawthorne and Dawson. The page also covers support races for motorcycles and saloons.
