Fast laps recorded by Wigram drivers

Report of Friday practice before the 1967 Lady Wigram Trophy in fine weather on the 2.3-mile circuit: the overseas drivers were all circulating near 98 mph, with Jim Clark officially timed at 1min 24sec, 0.2 sec outside Stewart's 1966 best. Jack Brabham's new lightweight Repco-Brabham V8 made its first New Zealand appearance but sounded woolly. The club had the paddock outside the circuit so spectators could see the cars.

Lap times

  • Jim Clark (Lotus-Climax): 1:24.0 practice
  • Jackie Stewart (BRM): 98.8 mph qualifying

Facts

  • A 400 pound side prize was offered at the 1967 Lady Wigram meeting for the first driver to lap Wigram at 100 mph in a preliminary heat or trophy race.
  • The Motor Racing Club placed the 1967 paddock outside the circuit so spectators could view drivers and cars.
  • Fastest practice lap in 1966 was 98.8 mph by Jackie Stewart in the afternoon qualifying trials.
