Chance for drivers to relax in N.Z.

Overseas drivers in New Zealand for the 1967 Tasman series relaxed between races (swimming, golf, water-skiing and a cricket match with England beating Australia and New Zealand), before training and qualifying for the Lady Wigram Trophy. Stewart (BRM) was favourite after winning the NZ Grand Prix; Clark had poor luck; Jack Brabham arrived late with his Repco-powered lightweight car, needing Tasman points after retiring from the Grand Prix.

Facts

  • Jackie Stewart won the 1967 New Zealand Grand Prix on 7 January with Jim Clark second in a V8 Lotus-Climax.
  • Jack Brabham was the world's biggest manufacturer of racing cars and used Australian-built Repco V8 engines in 1967.

They could prove to be thorns in the sides of the factory team drivers and, of course, will be out to improve their own status at Wigram.
