DY GRe M 7-1-67 RO PHY RaC E 1C CURRENT CHAMP. Currently leading in the New Zealand Racing Drivers' Club's sports car championship is Masterton farmer Andrew Buchanan with this Ferrari 250LM which is raced by Australia's Scuderia Veloce. S However, Buchanan may not have things all his own way at Wigram where the opposition from the Stanton brothers' Stanton-Corvette should be very strong on this fast circuit. The club was formed last year when Mr Ron Walton joined the staff of the school. He had previously started la club at Hangiora High School and soon had the Christchurch club conducting a full pro gramme of activities ranging from rallies to gymkhanas and even building cars. Membership is limited to about 25 senior boys and they count themselves fortunate in having as joint patrons the headmaster (Mr C. F. S. Caldwell) and none other than former world champion driver However, for the motoring enthusiasts there will be things much more mechanical to attract their interest. A New Zealand first will be a demonstration of the revolutionary rotary engine which bas been designed and built by Mr Hamilton Walker off Whangarei. The engine will be running and on top of that there will be a full set of plans on display. As well as an exhibition of! some of the cars entered in the Lady Wigram Trophy events, racing enthusiasts will Jim Clark. At the beginning of last year the club decided that, with the help of the Motor Racing Club, it would stage a motor show to help foster interest in the Lady Wigram Trophy meeting. Subsequently Mr Walton visited Sydney, Brisbane and Surfers' Paradise studying motor shows held there and: the best idea he brought home was that of a "concours d'elegance"—a glamour attraction which was the highlight of the Sydney motor show. Broadly speaking, the "concours" will be a fashion show for cars and their feminine drivers and there will be preliminaries each evening culminating with the final on Friday night when the "Queen of the Motor Show" will be announced. be able to see scrutineers checking the cars in readiness for the big day. Static exhibits will include some of the rarer and more exotic cars in New Zealand. Among them will be an Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint, Voivo 1800S, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, Isuzu Bellet and a "two-plus-two" E-type Jaguar. Nor has the appetite of the veteran and vintage car enthusiast been left unsatisfied. There will be a display of! these cars and a star attraction will be the rather more modern BB3S Aston Martin sports racer which won the 1953 Tourist Trophy in Ireland and was driven by the late Peter Collins and Royi ¡Salvadori, Of particular interest to would-be car builders should be the single-seater Wasp which Mr Walton races at Ruapuna Park and the twoseater sports Lynx which has! been built by Ron Hazelhurst, the club captain. The "do-it-yourself" motoring enthusiast will also find much to interest him among the entries in the home-built car competition. ¡Picture shows: The Christchurch Boys' High School Car Club will be running its own exhibit at its Canterbury Court Mator Show. This week the boys have been busily preparing for the show and here are Brent McKeown, Ron Hazelhurst, Peter Rollingson, Ted Sharp and Mr Ron Walton, science teacher at the school preparing Mr Walton's homebuilt Wasp racing car for the: Show. 19
