Jim Palmer likely to win title

With 40 points in both the Gold Star series and the NZ Racing Drivers' Club championship after four meetings, 1964 champion Jim Palmer of Hamilton looked set to retain the title. Andrew Buchanan was a distant second on 14 points. Bruce McLaren was absent from the tables because he raced on a British RAC licence rather than an Association of NZ Car Clubs licence.

Facts

  • After four meetings of the 1965 season Jim Palmer had the maximum 40 points in the Gold Star and NZ Racing Drivers' Club championships.
  • Bruce McLaren did not appear in the 1965 NZ championship tables because he held an RAC (Great Britain) licence instead of an ANZCC licence.
