Christehurch's Ray Archibald (Jaguar) with the unlucky Ernie Sprague (Zephyr) third Sprague made a fiyer from the third line in his Zephyr -battered as the result of an (unfortunate crash this morning-but Grant took the lead and had the field well covered by the end of the second lap. . Frustrated For the next one Archibald was frustrated in his attempts' to nose Sprague out of second place, and all I the while Grant was increas ling his lead. Aichibald •finally took sprague, but by this time Grant had built up an irre trievable lead.
