race report

Three cars in spectacular smash at Wigram

Three cars crashed at the hairpin at the end of the main straight in the main sports car event: Forrest Cardon's Lycoming Special braked, the brake grabbed and it veered into Arthur Moffatt's Lotus which rolled; Bob Coppins' Tec Mec was also hit but he continued. All escaped. Earlier Doug Lawrence's 1500cc Lola dominated before going sick. The Motor Racing Club championship (15 laps) was won by Christchurch's Maurice Stanton in the Stanton Corvette, 15.8sec ahead of Moffatt's Lotus.
