  • Four New Zealand drivers were to be chosen for the first Warwick Farm meeting for 400 pounds each in appearance money.

Mr Knox said the pool arrangement would save each organisation about £5000 in travelling costs. One Of the races in the 5-8-60 Ferrari Changes Hands One of Christchurch's most experienced racing drivers, F. Shuter, has purchased the powerful 3-litre Ferrari formerly owned by the New Zealand hill-climb champion, P. M. Hoare, Shuter, who has had several successes in major New Zealand events in Maseratis and V-8 specials, is expected to be a real force to be reckoned with in the infernational circuit of races in New Zealand next summer. The car is ane of the most powerful and best-kept racing models in the country. 20-8-60 20-8-60 2-9-60 Moss To Compete At Wigram Next Year The world motor racing champion, Jack Brabham, as well as one of the world's finest but most unlucky competitors, Stirling Moss, are among the entries confirmed for the 1961 Lady Wigram International Trophy race on January 21. Other drivers contracted to drive in the race are the young New Zealander, Bruce MeLaren, Innes ireland, of Britain, and the world motorcycling champion, John Surtees. This advice was received by cable from London by the Motor Racing Club in Christchurch yesterday. The secretary of the club (Mr G. F. Sheppard) said the contracts had been arranged by VIr R. M. Grierson, of the New Zealand Grand Prix orgarisation, who is acting on behalf of a circuit of promoters in Austra- La and New Zealand. Two other drivers may be available to race at Wigram, but the context of the cable did not make it clear what arrangements had been reached with them. They are the Beigian champion, Oliver Gendebien, who was the winner of this year's 24-hour Le Mans sports car race with Paul frere, and J. Clark, of Britain These two have indicated that they will compete in the New Zealand Grand Prix at Ardmore along with the other five drivers, but will then either compete in the two races in Australia, or come to the South Island for Wigram and the two other international events at Dunedin and Invercargill. The cable gave no other details. First Time in South Island Stirling Moss, one of the greatest drawcards motor-racing. even though he has yet to win the world drivers' title, will be competing in the South Island for the first time. Previously he has raced only at Ardmore. He will not race at any other circuit in STIRLING MOSS Australia and New Zealand next season apart from Ardmore and Wigram-presumably the only two circuits which can afford to pay his price. Moss is the best-known driver, in the sport and his driving is a highly-developed skill. On his day, he is unbeatable. Voss's Lotus car will be entered by the Rob waiker equipe, spoasored by the wealthy British enthusiast, R. R. C. Walker. It was in one of Walker's cars that Moss won the New Zealand Grand Prix In 1959. Walker. himself raced a great deal before the last war, but has since owned and entered cars. One of his great airs has been to help Moss to win the world championship, and if skill was the sole factor, that aim would aimost certainiy have been achieved. However. a great deal of other factors have played a pari Cooper Entries Brabham and McLaren will be driving as a team for the Cooper Car Company, and both are famous through their spectacuiar successes in the last two seasons. Finishing first and second in the world championship this season, they will be driving cars which are the: most successful racers Britain has yet produced. Brabham and Mclares are also signed to compete in fro races in Australia, but it appears Ikely they will drive different cars in Austraba Their cars cannot be shipped from Wigram in time tor the Australian events, so that two additional cars will probably be required. Brabham, the world champion last year and this year, neede littie introduction to the Christchurch public, for be has driver here three times previously. Mc- DALE driving cars entered by the Lotus and both these drivers have the ability to chase Moss, Surtees manages to ind time to defend his world motoscycle crown when he is not competing in mator-racing, and. widely regarded as a future world drivers' champion. No information has been received by the Motor Racing Club as to the cars when Gendebien and Clark will drive, but they will almost certainly be Coopers.
