The amazing performance of Jack Brabham's 2200cc Cooper-Climax in bounding with Flockhart's BRM at Wigram showed how successful these cars are; the Coventry Climax engine was developed from a fire-pump engine used by the London Fire Brigade.

  • The amazing performance of Jack Brabham's tiny 2200cc Cooper-Climax to bound with Ron Flockhart (BRM) in the Lady Wigram Trophy race on Saturday amply demonstrated how successful these racing cars are. Developed from a fire-pump engine originally used by the London Fire Brigade, the engine of the Cooper is one of the simplest of grand prix cars today. Its power-to-weight ratio is excellent, and its reliability a by-word in the sport.
