Drivers expect trophy race to be very open

Ron Flockhart (BRM), Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren (Coopers) said at an informal meeting that the Lady Wigram Trophy would be more even and open than the Ardmore Grand Prix, since the fast Wigram circuit suits their cars better. Brabham, second to Peter Whitehead in the 1957 Wigram race, rated it the best circuit in New Zealand; he and McLaren compared it to Silverstone and Goodwood. Flockhart said the Maserati team should have come, and praised New Zealand drivers and enthusiasm; Brabham called for more co-operation between Australasian and European racing bodies.
