Scott-Brown
Over the last four years, the motor-racing public
of Christehurch has been fortunate in seeing international racing of a high order in the Lady Wigram
trophy_race, and has come to expect skilful driving
from the competitors. But on Saturday, the display
of driving by the one-handed Scotsman, Archie Scott-
Brown, erceeded anything that has been seen on the
circuit yet. It is the first time that an international
race has been won in New Zealand by a combination
of a British car and driver.

Archie Scott-Brown gave the English sports car designer and owner

victory. Mr Lister, hailed as one
of the finest racing car designers
England today, was responsible for creating the car which
Scott-Erown drove.
Working on the basis of an ordinary D-type Jaguar engine,
Lister four years ago commenced
WOrK on the Lister-Jaguar car
which has now become famous in
many parts of the world. By
building the lightest body on any
sports car in the world, and working on the engine to ipcrease its
power, a car with startling performance resulted. There were
many teething troubles with the
car, but the model driven by
Scott-Brown has proved so successful that a new model is already almost completed in preparation for the season in Europe
On Saturday, the car out-accellerated, out-braked, and generally
outmanoeuvred all the cars on the
circuit. On the back straight; R
J. Royeroft, driving the most
powerful car in the race-a V-12

Aiter the race, Scott-Brown
proudly showed the stuffed black
cat mascot given to the Lister
team before their first race at
Silverstone four years ago. It has
been with the team ever since.
The new Lister-Jaguar will be
seen in action at Sebring (U.S.A.)
later this year. It has been entered by the American millionaire
Briggs Cunningham, who for several years has raced Chevrolet
