Firm favourite with the crowd is likely to be Hec Green, who won the South Island beach racing championship at South Brighton just before Christmas in no uncertain manner in his RA Vanguard. Frank Shuter, who had considerable success at the Nelson races over the Christmas period with his new V8 Special, may also be among the major placegetters, for his car appears to have better acceleration in the lower speed ranges than Green's, and this should be an advantage on the short circuit.
