Wigram hints at return
Lindsay Kerr says the 1987 Lady Wigram meeting, the 38th, drew the biggest crowd in years thanks to the one-off Australia-New Zealand sports sedan challenge, showing the circuit might return to its 1950s and 60s glory. Single-seater racing still deserved a place, with only 12 starters in the Formula Pacific series.
Facts
- The Motor Racing Club shipped six Australian drivers, their cars and crews to Wigram for a one-off sports sedan test in 1987 after falling patronage for single-seater racing.
- The 1987 Mita Copiers Pacific series fields had 12 drivers: four from the US, two from Australia and one expatriate living in the UK.

- Cars in the sports sedan challenge attracted plenty of attention when they were displayed in the Square.
- Crowds then went to Wigram to see the cars and drivers turn it on, as shown in the duel between Trevor Crowe and Bob Tindal.
