Start of new era in motor racing?

Women drivers will race for the first time at a national level in New Zealand in the new Quinn's Fashion Cup at the January 1986 Lady Wigram Trophy meeting, which has drawn nine competitors. Motor Racing Club president Don McKay introduced it to give women a chance to race, as in the 1950s when drivers such as Sybil Lupp were common. Debbie Lester of Palmerston North is the top contender. (The OCR of this clipping is very garbled.)
