Stars si The talents of Formula Pacific drivers Roberto Moreno and Steve Millen were shown on the dirt speedway track as wei! as the sealed circuit when they raced at Woodford Glen on Saturday. Moreno, who claimed before the race he had never driven on dirt before lined up for an International saloon feature race driving 4 cylinder saloon cars with fellow Formula Pacific exponents Dave McMillan, Mike Rosen, Robbie Hyslop and Millen. They were joined by sports sedan driver Trevor Crowe. Because he had raced on speedway tracks before, Millen started off the rear, Moreno and McMillan from the front. • Moreno quickly out- sprinted McMillan leaving him and Irevor Crowe to lace for second place. McMillan spun out after Je and Crowe had touched, Crare later retiring with beating problems to his Chevette. Millen had fought through the field and had Moreno in his sights but the littie Brazilian had again outwitted them all. Moreno's time was within six seconds of the race record. Under the circumstances of a strange car and strange surroundings this was an exceptional effort. Moreno later revealed be thought that he might have driven on a dirt track before. Steve Millen, who has raced in many classes of now versatili speedway, came out .in Doug Smith's Chevy Monza for the Super Saloon race. He showed his versatility by gaining and holding second place and keeping out for several laps the top saloon car driver Tony Cardwell. • The North Island versus South Island Saloon car 4 x * lap sprint series saw anotber well judged win for the local team when Tony Cardwell and *Denis Bolt won by 26 points to 14 over Wellington Graham Anderson and Bill Moffatt. The home team dominated the first two heats with a win and a second apiece. in the third heat however Anderson won in fine style and recorded the fastest time of, the series. Anderson again went to the jead in the last race but he spun off, leaving Bolt to record his second win. Former saloon car driver Brian Tizzard celebrated his first race in a stock car by rolling into the safety fence after becoming entangled with Eddie Hurst. This was the first car to roll on the track this season. Results: International saloon challenge - R. Moreno 1. S. Millen 2, R. Hyslop : * 212
