Lady Wigram prices

A reader replies to the 'Once Bitten Twice Shy' complaint, arguing that Lady Wigram prices were reasonable for one of New Zealand's biggest annual events with the world's top drivers and that non-starters disappoint owners as much as spectators.

Lady Wigram Prices Sir, -If "Once Bitten Twice Shy" is so mean with his money why did he not check the prices in the newspaper before attending the Lady Wigram meeting? Nobody forced him to go. Considering this is one of New Zealand's biggest annual events, starring the world's top international drivers, I think the prices seemed quite reasonable. Does the writer not also realise that no car is perfect, and that the owners are just as disappointed as the spectators when their cars are unable to compete? I am sure all racing fans will agree with me that this is racing at its best, and worth every cent for a thoroughly thrilling day.-HAD MY MONEY'S WORTH. Mustangs Saloon Take Event It was again the day Rothmans Group 5 saloon Wigram Trophy meeting at Aucklander F. Bryan domi-! nated the event over nine laps, although seriously challenged by Ashburton driver N. Doyle in a Corvette in the early stages. Bryan eventually won in a time of 15min 25.3see, and a good indication of the relatively calm drive whichhe had was his best lap time of imin! #.8sec. a couple of seconds slower than that which he had turned in earlier to-day. Timaru driver G. Sprague, j son of the well-known driver Ernie Sprague, was out to im-i press the public to-day and• took third place. During the race three Mint- Cooper drivers provided the, audience with a tremendously exciting battle for fourth and fifth places. They were Hastings's Angus Hyslop, Dunedin driver L. Neilson, and Aucklander W. Ketteiwell. Local driver A. J. Murray, in his Ford Sabre TG, who eventually came in seventh, provided some last-minute thrills with a spectacular spin for 50 yards out of the Club curve when racing for the check flag of the Mustang in the car final at the Lady Wigram to-day.
