Winner at a record-breaking 95.522 miles an hour in a
2-litre Lotus-Climax V8 last year, Flying Scotsman Jim
Clark must be rated the man to beat again this year in
this Tasman Formula 2.5 litre Lotus-Cosworth-Ford V8.
Churning out some 350 brake horsepower-about 100 more
than last year's car—it could provide Clark with the
first 100-miles-an-hour race lap and the handsome side
prize of $1000 donated by Manchester Car Sales, Ltd.

Winner of the race was ai
Wellington fire engine driver,
Morrie Proctor in the Riley. He
averaged slightly less than 66

Fastest lap was made by
Frank Bennett in a massive 4.5litre Invicta sports car at an
average speed of 68 miles an

In those days the circuit was
actually, comparatively speaking, a shorter and faster one
than it is to-day.
Lengthened
The exciting Loop which has
not only lengthened the course,
but also added a relatively
siow and twisty section was
introduced only a few years
ago.
All the same, to-day's speeds
