Moss needed his skill to win race of wits

Stirling Moss, second in the rain-soaked 1961 race, won the 1962 Lady Wigram Trophy at record speed in a 2.5-litre Lotus, taking the lead from the start and easing up late to conserve his tyres. He had gambled on high-grip rain tyres that wore quickly. Brabham, Surtees, McLaren and Salvadori filled the next places, Hyslop was sixth and Glass seventh; Bandini was the first retirement.
