This is the way to Wigram

Traffic arrangements for the 1960 Lady Wigram Trophy are much as before: southern traffic uses the main aerodrome gate, city traffic via Riccarton Road turns left at the Sockburn railway crossing into Vickerys Road (fourteen gatekeepers), Lincoln Road traffic uses Middle Lincoln Road and pedestrians and buses use Symes Road. A plan of the circuit is shown.

Facts

  • Vickerys Road entrance at Wigram was manned by fourteen gatekeepers for the 1960 Lady Wigram meeting.
  • The Wigram circuit had an artificial chicane of oil drums to eliminate a high-speed bump.

19-1-60 The local representative with the best chance in the tropby race must be Pat Hoare. He has competed regularly at Wigram since the first meeting in the first place ith a special, subsequently with a 4CI/I Maserati, and more recently with the Type 625 Ferrari pictured above. Hoare is an exceptionally steady driver, and he won a race at the Levin Motor Racing Club's meeting on Saturday. Brake troubles kept him out of major places in the New Zealand Grand Prix. One of the unknown quantities in the tropby race is Ted Gray, who will be driving Lou Abraham's Corrette-engined Tornado. This car holds the Australian land speed record as well as other sprint records. In the New Zealand Grand Prix it went out in the early stages of the race with magneto trouble. Len Lakey is the Australian national champion of 1959. He will be driving this 1960 c.c. Cooper-Climax in the Lady Wigram Trophy. After being fairly well up in the New Zealand Grand Prix at Ardmore, he retired with motor trouble.
